How it works

From lapsed nomination to signed renewal, in three steps.

STEADCALM is built around a single job: keeping your binding death benefit nomination valid, in every fund you hold, at every moment of your life. Here's exactly how that job gets done — for individual members and for the professionals who advise them.

For professionals: the portal is live

The SteadCalm professionals portal is available today for superannuation companies, accountants, financial advisers, and law firms. It is a separate, permissioned workspace — firm data never mixes with individual member accounts.

  • Client list with live BDBN nomination status across every tracked fund.
  • Renewal alerts and expiring-nomination queues for the whole book.
  • Estate briefs generated per client, on demand.
  • Secure client messaging and a tamper-evident audit log of advice.
  • Enforced multi-factor authentication, seat-based roles, and SSO options.

Access requires an invited firm seat and MFA. Individual members keep using every SteadCalm feature on their own account, and choose which professionals they grant access to.

Capture your nomination

Upload a photo of your most recent BDBN form, or type the details in directly. Our extractor reads the fund name, USI, beneficiaries, percentage splits, signing date and witness details.

If you can't find the form, we help you request a copy from your fund. If you have more than one super account, we track them all — including any you'd forgotten about via the ATO lost-super API.

We validate it

Every nomination is checked against:

  • The 3-year lapse rule under SIS Reg 6.17A.
  • Witness eligibility — 18+ and not a beneficiary.
  • SIS dependant status of each named beneficiary.
  • Percentages totalling exactly 100%.
  • Your fund's specific acceptance rules (binding vs non-lapsing vs reversionary).

You get a plain-English validity report, per nomination, per fund.

We remind you before it lapses — you stay in control

Every individual member gets an automated email at 47, 14 and 1 day before a nomination expires, with a signature-ready renewal form attached — pre-filled with your details, your beneficiaries and the witness declaration your fund needs on the same page. Your dashboard flags the same nomination from 47 days out.

If your super fund or adviser firm runs SteadCalm campaigns, that same window can also trigger a branded email and SMS from them. Those campaigns are scoped to that organisation's own members and are sent under their branding — they do not replace your personal reminders.

Print. Sign in front of two eligible witnesses. Post to your fund. Then record the new signing date in SteadCalm and the three-year clock restarts. We do not lodge anything with your fund and we never move your expiry date for you — only you know when the trustee actually accepted the form, so that confirmation stays human.

The same principle applies upstream: AI extracts the fields from your uploaded form, but nothing is saved until you confirm each one. Your renewal tracker keeps an append-only audit trail showing who validated each nomination, whether the human-confirmed version was used to build the form, and whether every reminder email actually sent.

Everything else supports this loop

Your Document Vault stores the signed copy. The Estate Brief PDF hands your solicitor a single document with every fund, every nomination and every asset in one place. Financial Assets keeps the death-benefit estimate current. None of it is theatre — each module exists because the BDBN loop works better with it.
